Act by May 13 to Get Quicker Economic Impact Payment

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is continuously working in collaboration with Treasury Department and the Bureau of Fiscal Services (BFS) to speed the process of Economic Impact Payments delivery so that more people receive the payment as soon as possible. Approximately 130 million individuals have already received payments by May 8, 2020 that worth above $200 billion in the first four weeks of program.

The IRS encourages Americans to act by May 13 to get quicker Economic Impact Payment as the number of paper checks being delivered to taxpayers will sharply increase by the end of this month. The last chance for many taxpayers to receive direct deposit of their Economic Impact Payment rather than receive a paper check is coming soon. To avail the last chance, those people can visit Get My Payment on IRS.gov by noon Wednesday, May 13, 2020. On visiting the page, check on the payment status and also provide direct deposit information, when the option becomes available.

Starting from late May 2020 to June, paper checks will begin to arrive as the IRS will start preparing millions of files to send to BFS after noon Wednesday, May 13. Taxpayers can still take the advantage of quick Economic Impact Payment delivery by entering direct deposit information using Get My Payment before May 13, 2020.

How Does Get Quicker Economic Impact Payment Works?

The IRS Get My Payment online tool provides the eligible taxpayers with an estimated Economic Impact Payment deposit date. The agency updates information on daily basis, usually overnight. The taxpayers are not required to check for the payments more than once a day. This tool can also be used by those taxpayers who did not choose direct deposit on their last tax return. By using Get My Payment tool, they can enter their input bank account information to receive their payment by direct deposit, expediting receipt. The IRS has also made certain updates in Get My Payment to facilitate taxpayers.

Non-Filers Portal Still Available

The Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool helps those individuals to receive Economic Impact Payment who are not required to file a federal tax return. Using Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool, these individuals can input their sic information to receive an Economic Impact Payment quickly to their bank account. The IRS developed this online tool in collaboration with the Free File Alliance to provide an easy and free option for those who do not receive Social Security retirement, Railroad Retirement benefits, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and VA Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefits. However, the eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for 2019 or 2018 will receive the payments automatically into their bank accounts. Those individuals who are receiving Social Security retirement, disability benefits, Railroad Retirement benefits, Veterans Affairs benefits or Supplemental Security Income with get automatic payment.
